FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have passed the C.F.S.C. exam, what now?

The information sheet that you completed has been sent to the Chief Provincial Firearms Office (C.P.F.O.) in Orillia. They will review and stamp it: and, then mail it back to you in the envelope that you addressed to yourself. This process could take between 4 - 6 weeks.

Once you receive this paperwork, you can then apply for a Non-restricted P.A.L. if you are at least 18 years of age. You can pick up an application from us or you can download one from the Canadian Firearms Centre (C.F.C.) website. Be sure to complete all the sections of the application, enclose both a current photo (less than 12 months old) and a copy of your paperwork from Orillia together with the proper payment and mail to the C.F.C. This process could take between 4 - 6 weeks.

Remember there is no temporary P.A.L., you either have one or you do not.

I have passed the C.F.S.C. exam, however I would like to apply for a Restricted P.A.L. How do I do that?

You must have passed the exams for both the C.F.S.C. & C.R.F.S.C. and provide paperwork to prove it when you complete an application for a Restricted P.A.L.

I am not 18 years of age but I have taken the C.F.S.C. and passed the exam. What can I apply for?

You can call the C.F.C. at 1-800-731-4000 and request a 'Minors Permit Application'. Once you have completed it and received your 'Minors Permit' back you can use a Non-Restricted firearm under expanded supervision.

I have taken the O.H.E.C. and passed the exams, what now?

You should have received a yellow piece of paper confirming that you have passed the O.H.E.C. exams and which class of license that you qualify for. If you are at least 16 years of age you can take this paperwork to a local Service Ontario office that issues Hunting Outdoor Cards and they will process your application. In addition you can also request a temporary Hunting Outdoors Card if you wish and you can use this temporary card until your plastic one is sent to you.

The Service Ontario office will also process H.O.C. for 15 year olds and H.A.C.

I have a Non-Restricted P.A.L. and now would like to upgrade to a Restricted P.A.L. How do I do this?

You must pass the C.R.F.S.C. exam and then complete a new application to upgrade from a Non-Restricted P.A.L. to a Restricted P.A.L. This new application must include another current photo and be mailed to the C.F.C.
